Apparently I was raped, kidnapped, and then murdered this past week. So here is a blog update to disprove all these claims.
After my sort of off Monday, I had two fairly boring days. Tuesday I spent doing homework. Stephen, Chris and I all had a bit of a crazy realization that Tuesday was the first day in which we had not seen each other since we met. That's ridiculous. I spent the day trying to get a paper started and mostly being unsuccessful because of the laws of procrastination I follow so carefully. My room became very clean though.
Wednesday I finally finished my paper. I didn't have class so I woke up fairly early and wrote all day. I decided to have a little welcome dinner for Henry and told Chris and Stephen to come over around 7. Both of them thought it would be a nice gesture to bring some beer and I thought it was a nice gesture to buy a nice bottle of wine... so all in all we had more alcohol than food, which was funny. I cooked up a storm of fried rice and chicken (tofu for Stephen). We ate before Henry arrived because we were all so hungry and he didn't get here til 9. Once he did, he ate and we played scrabble and drank some of the many beers we had with us. Then we wanted to show Henry around Wellington (Wednesdays are student nights, so usually a lot of people are out) but NO ONE was out. It was really weird. It turns out everyone else made the decision to stay in and do homework, and we apparently did not get the memo. So instead we sat by the water talking and walked around the city for a while. Then we watched "Summer Heights High" at Stephens and then later Henry and I walked home together.
Thursday I had class at 9 in the morning. It was pretty miserable, but it turned out to only be 10 minutes long because of the paper I had just turned in. So I decided to skip the only other class I had that day because it was so beautiful out and I wanted to show Henry the city I've come to love. We went to the Botanical Gardens, walked along Lambton Quay, Manners, Cuba St and the Civic Center. We met up with Stephen and ate some delicious Nando's. We stopped at a playground and did some swining and then went to hang out by the beach and enjoy the warm, cloudless day.
For some reason it was uncommonly calm that day. Barely any wind blow, the water was still, with very small waves lapping the beach, and the sun was shinning and beaming down warmth the way it did when I first came here. We spent the better half of the day exploring the tidal pools and rocks for starfish. We found really little cute starfish and HUGE octopus starfish with a million legs and scary sucker feet. Once we were all starfished out we lay on the dock for about 2 hours, listening to music and dozing off.
I'm not sure what we did after that, maybe walked around more, but slowly made out way back to Stafford. Thursday was Morgans birthday and Henry was invited so Henry and I got ready at Stafford and then headed over to this place called "genghis khan" which is a mongolian bbq. The place was cool, but over priced. It was an alright dinner party, although a weird grouping of people. Afterwards Henry, Chris, Stephen and I snuck away. Haha. We ended up watching "A Mighty Wind" at Stephens. Henry fell asleep during that. haha.
Friday Henry and I woke up early to await the arrival of his friend Ben. I made them pancakes and then we set off to go on the same hike Chris and I had done the week before. We met up with Chris and got fish and chips.
The hike went by a lot faster this time. Partially because I was moving really quicky (and somehow I've always been the one to set the pace on the hikes we've gone on) but also because we took a much better route than the one Chris and I had taken at first.
We hung out at the cement structures for a good 2 hours. Henry and Chris did some tagging (because the cement things were covered with tags already).
Afterwards we made our way back down and Ben, Henry and I went back to Stafford and took Ben and Henry's stuff to Stephens where they would be spending the rest of their time due to Staffords stupid guest policies.
Stephen, Henry, Ben, Chris, and I then went out to dinner at a malaysian restaurant. Afterwards... we went back to Stephens and watched "Step Brothers." A huge group of people trickled in throughout the movie and eventually it became pointless to try and watch it. We ended up going out for the night at several different bars but the night ended with me, Chris, and Henry talking at Stephens.
Saturday... it was a little less nice out so we spent it doing homework. Chris and I got Burger Fuel burgers together and then I went back to Stafford to do some homework and take a nap.
That night we met up with a huge group of boys from Auckland that were Henry's friends. It was me, Stephen, Ben, Henry, Alex, Kirk, and Josh. We ate at a moroccan restaurant and then met up with Jon, Sonya, Shannon, Leslie, Richard, and Chris at the bowling alley. We bowled (Brian and Thomas showed up a bit later) for about 2 hours.
After that we went to this bar called "The Establishment" - or "The Estab" as everyone here calls it - and danced for a quite a while. Chris and I personally hate that bar, so we made a joke about it, but eventually got fed up with it's bad music and annoying crowds and managed to get a group to go outside and hang out there for a little.
Sunday was daylight savings which made me, Chris and Stephen very happy because we all had a late start and thus had an extra hour to do work (it's fall here so the clock "fell back" an hour). We got Nando's together and then went our seperate ways to do homework. For dinner I went out with Henry and all his friends to Burger Fuel (again!) and then I stayed around for a beer at the Matterhorn but said my goodbyes soon after and then went back to Stafford to do more homework.
Monday - TODAY! - I had a really interesting class on Buddhism and meditation. It really intrigued me and for a crazy second I imagined taking classes on Buddhism for next semester only to realize that I need to finish my major and minor requirements first. I just got really wrapped up in how interesting the whole trance meditation altered consciousness. Also the guy teaching (it wasn't my regular prof) was really intelligent and had particiapted in many of the rituals himself when he lived in Japan for 4 years. He also speaks, reads and write 8 different languages. People like that blow me away.
I have a list of "kiwi-isms" that I keep forgetting to put on here. I have to post some pictures and then go to class, so I'll have to do that another time. There are so many I've left out from my blog still!
