Wednesday was my one day off from classes so Chris, Stephen and I went to see this Monet exhibit that is one display at the Te Papa Museum. It was 12 dollars, but totally worth it. We spent the whole time walking around getting up real close to the paints and then sitting for a long time just staring in wonderment and the huge different the paintings had from far away.
Afterwards the three of us went to Stephens flat where I did some homework and Chris and Stephen worked on a song together that they planned to preform for this silly little talent show being held by a local bar called Molly Malones. The competition is called "Tiddly Idol" and it had to be a talent of anything that was related to being irish. Niether Stephen nor Chris are irish but they learned a irish song and practiced it while I read. Afterwards we went to our favorite bar/caffe called the Matterhorn. I've gone there most regularly for coffee, tea, and on occasion, drinks. It's a really good place to hang out with an outdoor seating area where people socialize loudly and a fancy indoor restaurant. After spending a couple hours just sitting and talking, the three of us went to a concert venue called "the San Fransisco Bathhouse" which shortened is called "San Fran." This place hosts a wide range of bands almost every week. I didn't know any of the bands playing that night but Chris did and it turned out to be a rather good show.
Thursday I went to my classes, a lab and a short hour long psych class. The lab was pretty cool because I got to finally meet some of my classmates (it's a much smaller group out of the larger lecture) and I got pretty excited about my research that I'll be doing here. My class was short and painless. After doing some homework I ran over to Stephens flat to support Stephen and Chris while they practiced for Tiddly Idol (I was nominated their number one fan and also manager). We got burgers together and then went to Molly Malones to scope out the competition. A HUGE group of people showed up to support Stephen and Chris, which was pretty great. We had a whole corner of the room cheering them on when they preformed.
Unfortuantely their preformance was not nearly as good as their practice session (Stephen forgot the words at one point, as did Chris but not as noticibly). It was all in good fun, but when the results came out, Stephen was pretty bummed so Chris, Stephen and I left the bar and the two of them played outside on the streets to redeem themselves.
